Everyone at South Vac wants to make it home safe to their families, so we all work together to make sure that happens. Our Safety Officer has many years of experience working in Local and State Government as a Health and Safety Representative.

South Vac has gone a step further than most other Hydro Excavation companies. One of our staff has been trained in identifying, locating and protecting underground services (RIICCM202D) with Staking U. This means that South Vac Staff can spot any problems before they occur, and they practise precise, low risk excavation around utilities.

South Vac Founder – Michael Filkin
Michael has worked in the Hydro Excavation industry for many years and has built up a reputation for quality workmanship with a smile!
Michael had a dream to start his own business because not only does he enjoy his job he recognised a growing need for environmentally sustainable options in the excavation industry.
Michael holds a Heavy Rigid Truck Licence, Gas Officer Card and is trained in Confined Spaces, Asbestos Awareness and First Aid.
Award Winner – Will Filkin
In addition to his HR Licence, Gas Officer Card and White Card; Will has been trained in identifying, locating and protecting underground services (RIICCM202D) with Staking U. Will’s expertise and advice means he can spot problems before they occur ensuring a safe excavation.
Will has fully embraced our Company values – caring for the environment, safety, innovation, customer relations and philanthropy. This was recognised by the community when he won the Trades Category at the McLaren Vale Business and Tourism Awards in 2018.
